Review - The LEGO Movie (NSFW)

The Master Builders have put together a world where EVERYTHING IS AWESOME in "The LEGO Movie". Seriously, if this movie was a woman or a sex toy, I would have very inappropriate penis shredding sex with it and make little interchangeable part plastic babies. I laughed, I cried (yes, I cried a little), I felt special. The film perfectly expresses the joy of childlike imagination and the anal retentiveness of adult LEGO builders. The attention to detail is amazing, right down to the LEGO trademark on the inside of bricks and the broken helmet piece on the 1980's Space Guy, Benny. Will Arnet (busy guy these days) voices the somewhat dickish goth artist Batman, Liam Neeson does triple duty as Good Cop/Bad Cop/Father Cop, Billy Dee Williams reprises his role as Lando Calrissian and there is the always wonderful Morgan Freeman's Voice. Side note: Morgan Freeman's Voice also stars in a new iMax film called "Two Hours of a Cute Animal and Morgan's Freeman's Voice." This movie is so good, I could master build to it all day. My only complaint - MY ONLY COMPLAINT - and it's a small one, is that Harrison Ford did not reprise his role as Han Solo. EVERYTHING IS AWESOME! An admittedly biased 4.9/5.  HIGHEST RATED MOVIE YET! GO SEE THIS MOVIE!

Review - Epic

"Epic" might be a bit of an overstatement for the title of the film by the same name. The story is a little loose with a lot of ideas (eco-warriors, grief, family, socialism, etc.) mixed in the bag but not really having a satisfactory tie-up. Nonetheless, the animation is dazzling (and how can an animated feature not be dazzling in this day and age), the character designs are lovely, the music fitting, there's action and adventure, and a twist on the Disney Princess. My biggest tiff comes from the voice acting. While not bad, it rarely seems to suit the characters. Colin Farrell is sometimes recognizable and sometimes you're just like "uh, wha...?" Christopher Waltz on the other hand has an amazing villainous voice. Christopher Waltz! An enjoyable if not rapt 2.9/5.
