Review - Adventureland

Adventureland is anything but an adventure. Jesse Eisenberg is Michael Cera and I don't care for Michael Cera. His (their) career seems to be based on playing this same character over and over. Kristen Stewart has the emotional range of a baked potato. But I would go gay for that Ryan Reynolds - ooh, he's dreamy! . The film is not funny. The eighties is the worst possible decade to place a coming of age story in. There is an awful lot of drunk driving to which I strongly object - the only victim of this stupidity is a shrub - and the subplot it invokes drops off the face of the planet at the next cut of 35mm film. In fact, all the subplots get cut almost immediately. It end with a cliche that New York will solve all your problems. It's saving grace if it has one is the soundtrack. I'm not a fan of eighties music but it does dig up a few gems and uses them well against it's filler montages. Overall, the best I can say about this movie is that it is a pretty good representation of how vapid and crappy the eighties were. 1.8/5.
